BURLINGTON, Vt.–David J. Provost of Shelburne, Vt., has been named vice president of finance and administration at Champlain College. He will be a member of the Presidents Council and will be responsible for the Colleges finance, human resources and physical plant. Provost replaces Lawrence J. Veladota, who retired from the College after 35 years of service.Mr. Provost has rich experiences in a number of different positions–from serving as a CPA, CFO and CEO–which will strengthen our senior management team, said President Roger H. Perry. After graduating from St. Michaels College, Provost joined Deloitte & Touche in Boston, where he conducted annual audits of public, private and governmental companies, including Oceanspray Cranberries, Kens Foods, Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Cape Cod Hospital. He was then hired away by one of his audit accounts, Skis Dynastar Inc., and served as vice president of finance and operations. He was promoted to executive vice president and oversaw North American distribution subsidiaries of Skis Dynastar S.A., a division of Group Rossignol. Provost had full sales, marketing and financial responsibilities of this winter sport products company with profit and loss responsibility of $40 million in annual revenue. Most recently Provost worked as a consultant and formed a licensed apparel company, Select Licensing Group. During the past eighteen months, Provost has worked closely with Champlain College on important costing and budgeting projects, including obtaining a financing agreement and tracking the construction budget for the three new buildings of Champlains Power of Three Capital Campaign. He combines the strengths of a strong financial background from a top accounting firm, senior management experiences at an international level, and a close working knowledge of Champlains finances and many of its operations, Perry said. This coupled with good sense of humor and a belief in Champlains core values bodes well for us as we move the College to the next level.
