Syracuse hires Steve Stanard to coach defensive ends

first_imgSyracuse has hired Steve Stanard to be the new defensive ends coach. Stanard most recently was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Wyoming from 2014-2016.“My family and I are excited and thankful to (head) Coach (Dino) Babers for this opportunity,” Stanard said in a press release. “The football tradition at Syracuse is second to none and I very much look forward to assisting Coach Babers in achieving the goals he’s set for this program – both on and off the field.”After being a student assistant coach and graduate assistant his first three years out of school, Stanard started as formally as a defensive coordinator in 1991. He has worked mainly with linebackers, with one three-year stint as a defensive ends specialist, per his bio.Last year, Vinson Reynolds was the assistant coach who worked with the entire defensive line. Now, he is listed as the defensive tackles coach with Stanard taking over the line. The Orange still doesn’t have a linebackers coach after the departure of Tom Kaufman to Chattanooga.“Coach Stanard understands exactly what we want to do defensively,” Babers said in the release. “Both his familiarity with our system and his experience running defenses at other places are tremendous assets for our program. We’re very excited to have Steve as part of our family.”AdvertisementThis is placeholder text Comments Facebook Twitter Google+ Published on March 24, 2017 at 11:05 am Contact Tomer: [email protected] | @tomer_langerlast_img
