Haven 44 Oxford 22S Haven 44 Oxford 22 by James Jordan, Sumner Newscow — It should be a great weekend of Sumner County football including a big tilt between Conway Springs and Garden Plain. Garden Plain at Conway SpringsThe Cardinals of Conway Springs have reloaded and will be looking to continue their winning ways while hosting Garden Plain Friday.Conway Springs has outscored two opponents 87-15 in its first two games.New players are in the backfield of the run oriented single wing offense. Ben Pauly has run for 238 yards and has a 7.1 yards per carry average through two games. Colton Terhune has rushed for 144. Conway Springs may pass a little more this year. In two  games Terhune has completed 10 of 19 passes for 176 yards.The competition may be a little harder this week, as Garden Plain is 2-0 and has outscored two opponents 86-15.Conway Springs is a contender most seasons, and is ranked No. 7 in Class 3A by the Kansas State Coaches Association.Belle Plaine at BluestemStruggles continue at Belle Plain, and the road gets no easier this week as the team travels to Bluestem.Belle Plaine has been outscored 113-8 in two games. The team has only 91 yards rushing through two games, but it has thrown for 148.Central Burden at Argonia-AtticaThe Argonia-Attica Titans are no surprise this year. They have rumbled through two games with blowout wins, and are ranked No. 3 in 8-man division 2 football. The team hosts Central Burden this week, another 2-0 team.Last week Argonia-Attica scored 32 points in the first quarter and beat Cedar Vale – Dexter 60-14.Central Burden won a shootout with Caldwell, 66-42 in its opener and beat Flint Hills 48-0 last week.Oxford at UdallIn a bit of a surprise, Oxford has started out 0-2, and faces a tough opponent this week when it travels to Udall. Udall was ranked in the top 5 in eight-man football going into the season, but after losing to Caldwell last week it fell out of the rankings.South Haven at Cedar Vale – Dexter (Cedar Vale)South Haven surprised local football fans with a 44-22 win over Oxford in its opener, and then lost to Sedan 36-20 last week. The team travels to Cedar Vale this week to take on another 1-1 team. Cedar Vale Dexter blew out Flinthills  48-0 in its opener before getting routed last week by Argonia-Attica.Caldwell at West ElkCaldwell upset ranked Udall last week, and will travel to West Elk this week to face a 2-0 team.Teams often make their biggest improvement between weeks one and two, and Caldwell certainly did that by getting its running game going.The game could be a high scoring affair. In two games Caldwell has outscored its opposition 94-90, while West Elk has outscored its first two opponents by 116-70.
