Performing Arts BC Provincial Festival coming to Fort St. John next May

first_imgStarting on May 31st, the Performing Arts BC Provincial Festival will be touching down in Fort St. John until June 4th.The festival features performing artists in the province, with participants between the ages of 10 and 28 selected at community festivals across BC to participate in the Provincial festival. The 5-day festival is expected to see more than 400 participants, and bring anywhere from 1,200 to 1,500 visitors to the city.- Advertisement -The City of Fort St. John approved a discretionary grant to the Peace River North Festival Association for $4,000 in Monday’s Council Meeting, to assist them in their role as host of these festivities. The request was for a total of $24,000. $20,000 of that was asked for as support for the festival, and $4,000 for the purchase of a vinyl floor on the stage at the North Peace Cultural Centre – the floor would become the property of the NPCC afterwards as part of ‘the local legacy from the event.’The total request far exceeds the $10,000 budget for discretionary grants in 2016. Because of this, city council decided to grant PRNF with $4,000 – the same amount they applied for with the Peace River Regional District for.Advertisementlast_img
