LETTERKENNY GENERAL WAITING LIST ON THE RISE – MacLOCHLAINN

first_imgDeputy Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has expressed his concern at the rise in waiting lists at Letterkenny General Hospital.Deputy Padraig Mac LochlainnIn the month of April alone, the waiting list grew by 233 to 16,221.Commenting on the situation, Deputy Mac Lochlainn said he is extremely concerned at the increasing waiting times at our hospital – a hospital which is need of significant additional funding. “Government health cuts are affecting the current overcrowding levels greatly, though there are other issues at play. There has been a 9.4% decrease in nursing staff across the state since March 2011.“It is clear that there is a need for a recruitment campaign within the HSE to bring nurses back to Ireland to alleviate under-staffing.“Before the budget, the HSE sought €106.5 million to free up hospital beds across the state and reduce overcrowding through a plan which involved discharging hundreds of elderly patients to step-down facilities, such as nursing homes.“Sinn Féin is calling for an emergency department task force to meet regularly in final months of 2015 and assess whether enough resources are in place to tackle the problem for early 2016. “Consultants, the senior decision makers from both the A&Es and from other areas in hospitals should make an extra effort to ensure that they are present to ease admission, discharge and fast-track treatment.“Sinn Féin is committed to reversing the chronic under capacity of the system by recruiting additional frontline workers. We would lift the recruitment embargo, prioritising initially the recruitment of frontline workers including nurses, midwives, speech and language, physio and occupational therapists, and others.  This was a priority that featured in our Alternative Budget in which we allocated a total spend in the Health budget of more than €70 million.“We will continue to campaign to secure the health service that our people need and deserve.”LETTERKENNY GENERAL WAITING LIST ON THE RISE – MacLOCHLAINN was last modified: May 14th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img
