ATHLETICS NEWS: ROSSES ATHLETE DEREK GILLESPIE WINS ALL-IRELAND HIGH JUMP TITLE

first_imgRosses AC News:Last weekend saw senior athletes competing in the Bundoran 10 miler and at the All Ireland Masters in Athlone.Pride of place goes to Derek Gillespie with huge congratulations to Derek on winning Gold in the Over 35 High Jump with a jump of 1.75m. Many athletes have been putting in the hard miles over the winter months under the supervision of Paul McGee and the Cara Bundoran Challenge 10 Mile Race last weekend was the first race to really see where they were at. There were very impressive runs from all and sets many people up for greater targets and goals for the rest of the year. Kevin McGee lead the way with a very impressive run and a time of 58:57. Ciaran Mc Gonagle 59:35, Michael Logue 1:01:56, Fergal Mc Gee 1:08:54, Denis Edward Bonar 1:11:54, Seamus Ferry 1:16:22, Niall Griffin 1:16:40, Michael Rodgers 1:17:25, Eamonn Mc Gee 1:19:41, Noel Boyd 1:20:31, Anne Harkin 1:22:48, Leigh Mc Geever, 1:22:49, Noreen Mc Gee 1:22:49, Kathleen Rodgers 1:28:05, Cathy Breslin 1:32:38, Kathleen Griffin 1:32:45, Fiona Mc Ginley 1:33:56, Grace Garvie 1:36:40, Lorna O Donnell 1:47:09, Anne Rodgers 1:47:10.There was Sportshall Athletics success for eleven club juvenile athletes on Donegal teams last week at the Ulster Sportshall Athletics finals in Magherafelt and what a show they put on to help Donegal make a clean sweep winning all four titles. In the under 13 Girls competition, Emilly Croke, Mia Mc Devitt and Melissa Mc Gee with our own Ita Gallagher being one of the team managers. We had four boys on the U-13 team: John Boyle, Éamonn Ó Gallachóir, Joe Sharkey and Oran Wallace. We also had four girls on the U-15 team with Louise Gillespie as team manager. Orfhlaith Winters, Ciara Curran, Saskia Boyle and Jessica Oglesby. Well done to all the athletes on their fine performances today. Maith Sibh! They all qualify for the UK Finals to be held in Manchester 25/26 AprilSportshall Athletics in the Pobalscoil Gweedore and Dungloe finished up this week. Track and Field: Training for juveniles interested in track and field continues this Friday at the track at Carrickfinn starting at 4pm.Adult Training sessions continue on Wednesday evenings at 7pm and Friday evenings at 8pm at the Industrial Estate, lead by Paul McGee. Long run sessions are happening every Sunday morning at 11am. Meet at the Blue Bridge, Arduns, Gweedore. Date for Diary: The second race in our Spring Series is Sunday 29th March. Open to walkers, joggers and runners.Please note that Registrations are now due for the calendar year 2015. Rosses Athletic Club Membership fees for 2015 are; Child €15, Adult €20, Family €40.
